We must select the Master Page that applies to our Content Page.

Below is how our Content Page looks in design view. The content area is where you can place any text, HTML or controls that are unique to this particular page.

In code view this is how our page looks. Notice the directive 'MasterPageFile="~MasterPage.master". This informs the ASP.NET engine to use the MasterPage.master template.

The ASP.NET engine will merge both the Master Page and Content Page and display a single page i.e. 'page1.aspx'.
