Creating the Web Application's folders

Taking our existing project created in our last tutorial Creating your first ASP.Net web application, I will now add the folders and pages necessary for this web application.

1. Using the workspace area of Web Matrix select our top level project folder (mine is “rras”).
2. Select the folder name using the mouse so that this folder is highlighted.
3. Moving to the menu at the top of the workspace select the “New Folder” icon which is third from the left in the menu.
4. Clicking on the “New Folder” icon will open the “Create New Folder” dialog box (Figure 3).
5. Type the name of the new folder into the “Create New Folder” dialog box (my first folder will be called pages) and then click OK on the base of the box.
6. A new folder with the specified name will be created under the top level folder and this will be visible in the workspace area. If it isn’t visible open the top level folder by clicking the plus sign to make it visible.

Create further folders as required by repeating the steps above making sure that on each occasion the top level folder is highlighted to ensure that any new folders are created within the existing web application structure. I will create a further five folders called management, logon, images, style and controls.

You can also create new folders by selecting the top level folder and using the right mouse button to select “New Folder” from the list of options. This will open the “Create New Folder” dialog box as in Point 4 above.

Note also that should you wish to remove a folder at any time, a folder can be deleted by selecting the folder and then clicking on the “Delete” icon from the menu at the top of the workspace which is fourth from the left in the menu. You can also delete folders by selecting them and using the right mouse button select “Delete” from the list of options.
